Why do we need to do something?
Teenage pregnancy is a global issue but most often occurs in poorer and marginalized communities. The rate of teenage pregnancy in Seychelles has seen a steady increase for many years.
Today, in Seychelles more than 13,8% of live births are from a teenage mother and in some districts this rate goes up to 26,9%. As it stands today in Seychelles, a person under the age of 18 can only request contraceptive methods from a healthcare professional with the consent of their parent or guardian. The age of consent is 15 years old in Seychelles.
The only contraception a person aged 17 and under can access without the consent of their parent or guardian is a condom.
